My Dear Brothers and Sisters:
사랑하는 형제자매 여러분:
I am writing to invite you to be a part of the 8th annual North Korea Freedom Week to be held in Seoul for the 2nd year in a row from April 24-30, 2011.
4월24일부터 30일까지, 서울에서 두 번째 열리는 제 8회 북한자유주간에 여러분들이 참석해달라는 부탁을 하기 위하여 이 초청 말씀을 보냅니다.
This is a week that is dedicated to you and held for you, the people of North Korea. This week we will stand together in solidarity as people living in freedom to demand the freedom, human rights and dignity for those who still suffer in enslavement under Kim Jong-il’s regime.
북한자유주간은 여러분들과 북한에 있는 우리 형제자매들을 위한 행사입니다. 이 한 주간, 이제는 자유를 누리는 우리들이 일심동체가 되어, 김정일 정권 아래 아직도 노예처럼 수난을 당하고 있는 우리 형제자매들의 자유와 인권과 인간적 존엄을 요구할 것입니다.
The day of North Korea's freedom is coming ever closer because of so many unprecedented changes that have occurred in North Korea since last year’s North Korea Freedom Week.
북한주민들 해방되는 날이 이제는 보입니다. 작년 이 맘 때 이곳에서 북한자유주간을 연 후, 북한에서는 여러가지 전에 없던 일들이 벌어지고 있습니다.
As you know firsthand, North Koreans are no longer isolated and are increasingly learning the reality that the source of their misery is not America or South Korea, but the source of their misery is Kim Jong il and the elites of his regime.
여러분들이 더 잘 아시겠지만, 북한주민들은 이제 더 이상 고립 단절되어 있지 않습니다. 더 많은 북한주민들이, 이제는 자신들의 수난이 미국이나 남한 때문이 아니라, 김정일과 그의 측근들 때문이란 사실을 알게 되었습니다.
As you know firsthand, North Koreans are no longer dependent on Kim’s regime to survive as over 200 private markets are in existence and many of you are saving the lives of your loved ones by getting assistance to them. The regime has given up trying to control these markets and can no longer restrict access to them. Perhaps, most significantly, Kim Jong-il's unprovoked and brutal attacks on South Korea have awakened those living in South Korea to the truth that you have tried to tell them: we must not ignore the human rights of our brothers and sisters for the false promises of this regime to end its nuclear program.
여러분들이 더 잘 아시겠지만, 북한주민들은 더 이상 자신들의 생존을 위하여 김정일 정권에 의존하지 않고 있습니다. 북한에도 200곳 넘는 사설시장들이 생겼고, 탈북자 여러분들이 북한에 두고온 여러분의 형제자매를 직접 지원하고 있습니다. 가장 괄목할만한 변화는 남한국민들입니다. 여러분들이 이제까지 그토록 주장해왔던 진실에, 김정일의 천안함과 연평도 학살이 남한국민들의 눈을 뜨게 했습니다. 김정일 정권으로부터 핵을 포기하겠다는 가짜 약속을 받아내기 위하여, 북한에 있는 우리 형제자매들의 인권을 외면해서는 안 된다는 진실 말입니다.
However, despite these amazing changes, North Koreans are still the most suffering people on earth. No where else on Earth can someone be shot for making a long distance phone call or visiting another country, no where else on Earth can a child be born and spend their life in a political prison camp. No where else on Earth have millions died in a famine in a so called “industrialized nation” during peacetime. No regime on Earth except North Korea abducts citizens from other nations, holds POWs, counterfeits money, and trafficks in drugs.
그러나 이러한 괄목할만한 변화에도 불구하고 북한주민들은 이 지구상에서 제일 혹독한 수난을 계속 당하고 있습니다. 이 지구상에서, 장거리 전화를 걸었다거나 이웃나라를 방문했다고 총살시키는 나라가 어디 있습니까? 이 지구상에서, 정치범수용소에서 태어나 평생을 수용소 안에서 살아야 하는 나라가 어디 있습니까? 이 지구상에서, 소위 “산업화 된 나라”에서 평화 시기에 수백만이 굶어죽은 나라가 또 어디 있습니까? 남의 나라 국민을 납치하고, 전쟁포로를 아직까지 억류하고, 위조지폐를 정권이 찍어내고! 마약을 밀매하는 나라는, 이 지구상에서 북한 말고는 없습니다.
My friends, the day of North Korea’s liberation is coming and when the Kim regime ends we will learn of even more atrocities that we cannot even begin to imagine that have been committed against the North Korean people.
사랑하는 동지 여러분, 북한주민의 해방은 다가오고 있습니다. 김정일 정권이 끝나면, 우리는 이제까지 우리가 알았던 북한주민들의 참상이 그보다 훨씬 더 참혹했다는 진실을 알게 될 것입니다.
Let us hasten that day of liberation by using our freedoms to fight for theirs so that no more innocent lives will be lost. Please join us for North Korea Freedom Week with your prayers at the prayer vigils, your voices at the rally and other events. We need you today more than ever before.
동지 여러분, 우리들의 자유를 최대한 선용하여, 북한주민들의 해방을 하루라도 빨리 앞당깁시다. 한 사람의 목숨이라도 더 건집시다. 그 어느 때보다 더 중요한 시기가 왔습니다. 북한자유주간 철야 기도회가 있습니다. 그곳에 모여 우리 모두 함께 기도합시다. 북한자유의 날 궐기대회와 기타 행사들이 있습니다. 이 행사들에 탈북형제자매 여러분들이 적극 참여해주시길 간곡히 부탁드립니다.
